Revie's World Travels

All the way to Northern California

After much debate, we decided to breed Revie one last time. Then came the agonizing decision on who would that "lucky dog" be? We were most impressed with the accomplishments but more importantly, the offspring that was being produced by CH Kimani's Walk on the Wildside "Deion". He is the sire of who is currently the #1 Ridgeback in the United States, BIS CH Oakhurst Wgasa Morgan Run. His puppies are strong in body, health and temperament. And what luck, he was just in our neighborhood…or only an 18-hour-drive away!

We had just gotten back from the Westminster in New York when Revie decided to go into season. With that in mind, Jayson decided he would have to stay home and take care of the dogs and do the "catch-up routine" around the house. That left me to drive from our home on the Washington/Canadian border to Sacramento California. After three serious car accidents and numerous horse accidents in my younger days, driving is not my favorite thing. I enlisted the help of my sister-in-law Judy and was thrilled when she agreed. Taking time away from her young family and busy schedule, she and I left on a leisurely morning and spent our first night on the road in Rice Hill Oregon. Now I'm stepping out on a limb here and will try not to offend anyone but I really don't think anyone lives in Rice Hill. There were two choices of motel at this overgrown truckstop, the A-frame "trucker special" or the brand new Best Western. We went with the obvious choice for two blondes on their own a long way from home. When I checked in at the counter, I suddenly realized I had two rather amorous truckers on either side of me. Judy saw my predicament and came in the door with Revie. All muscles and tense look on her face (that's Revie's face not Judy's). The truckers quickly realized either that I wasn't their type or that Revie's glare was more than they wanted to tangle with that night!

We made it through the border checkpoint of California and on to Sacramento the next day. Chris and Michele Bohrer, Deion's owners, went above and beyond the call of duty as far as hospitality and graciousness and did their best to make our stay fun as well as successful. Judy and I took the opportunity to explore Napa Valley and the San Francisco area.

Revie and Deion got along famously and the result was a litter of seven healthy puppies; five boys and two girls. One liver nosed boy. The pictures and memories that I got from our trip will be forever precious to me. I was struck once again what a wonderful companion I have in Reva girl and what a contribution she has made and will continue to make in our breeding program and to the breed in general.
